Chimney Sweep in Minooka, ILChimney & Fireplace Service in Minooka, IL
Minooka has grown fast since the 2000s, so a large share of its fireplaces are modern — gas units and factory-built flues in subdivisions that did not exist a generation ago. Those need a different kind of attention than old masonry, and United Chimney Sweepers handles all of it, seven days a week.
New subdivisions, modern fireplaces
Railroad surveyors called Minooka “the summit” for its elevation on the Rock Island line after the railroad arrived in 1852, and the name stuck — you still see it at Summit Park. But most of today’s Minooka is new, built in the large subdivisions that went up across three counties in the 2000s. The homes around Veterans Memorial Park and the newer streets typically have prefab metal fireplaces or gas units. Our gas fireplace service keeps burners, pilots, valves, and venting working safely, and our chimney sweep clears creosote from the wood-burning prefab systems.
Yes, a newer chimney still needs a sweep
A common misconception in a fast-growing town like Minooka is that a newer home’s chimney is maintenance-free. It is not. Factory-built metal flues collect creosote and soot when you burn wood, exactly as masonry chimneys do, and that buildup is the same fire risk. These systems also have chase covers, gaskets, and caps that wear out over time. A yearly chimney inspection catches those issues early, whatever the age of the house. We work to the NFPA 211 standard.
Dryer vents in new construction
Minooka’s newer homes often route the dryer vent on a long, winding path to an exterior wall, and those runs trap lint quickly — a real and under-appreciated fire hazard. Our dryer vent cleaning clears the full run and checks the exterior flap, which also helps your dryer run cooler and faster. United Chimney Sweepers is family-owned by Michael and Mark Lloyd, bonded and insured, and voted Best Company in Illinois in 2021.

Minooka fireplace & chimney questions
My Minooka home is new. Does its chimney really need servicing?
Yes, if you use the fireplace. The prefab metal systems in Minooka’s newer subdivisions collect creosote when you burn wood, just like older masonry chimneys, and that is the same fire risk regardless of the home’s age. Gas units need their venting kept clear and their components checked. A new house simply means different common issues — chase covers, gaskets, venting — not the absence of them. A yearly inspection keeps a modern fireplace safe.
How do I know if I have a gas or wood-burning fireplace?
If your fireplace lights with a switch, remote, or a gas key and burns ceramic logs that never turn to ash, it is a gas unit. If you load real firewood and it produces ash and smoke, it is wood-burning. Many Minooka homes have gas, and the two need different service — gas gets a burner, valve, and venting check, while wood-burning gets a creosote sweep. If you are not sure, tell us what you see and we will sort it out when we arrive.
Why is dryer vent cleaning worth doing?
Because lint is highly flammable and a clogged vent is a leading cause of home fires. In Minooka’s newer homes the dryer is often set far from an exterior wall, so the vent takes a long, twisting route that traps lint fast. A blocked vent also makes the dryer run longer and hotter, wearing it out and raising energy costs. Clearing the full run removes the hazard and restores airflow, and we can do it in the same visit as your chimney.
