Chimney Sweep in Newark, ILChimney Sweep for Newark, IL
Out in Newark, where homes are spread across the countryside and many families still lean on a wood stove or fireplace for real heat, a clean and sound chimney is not a luxury. United Chimney Sweepers serves this far corner of Kendall County seven days a week.
Rural homes often burn more — and need more
Newark was laid out in 1836 by George B. Hollenback, first called Georgetown, and it has stayed a small crossroads village — the kind of place where the Norsemen name at Newark Community High School still nods to the Norwegian settlers who put down roots around nearby Norway. Because the area is largely rural with little modern subdivision, many homes here use wood heat heavily through the winter rather than as the occasional ambiance fire you see in the subdivisions. Heavy burning means faster creosote buildup, and that is exactly what causes chimney fires. A yearly chimney sweep keeps that buildup in check for homes along Route 71, near the old Fowler Institute site, and across the surrounding farms.
Inspection matters most where fires burn hardest
The more you burn, the more important the inspection. Our chimney inspection checks the flue liner, the structure, and the cap for the kind of wear that hard winter use causes — cracked liners, creosote glazing, and heat damage. We work to the NFPA 211 standard and tell you honestly what we find. For a rural Newark home that depends on its stove, catching a cracked liner early is the difference between a safe winter and a dangerous one.
Keeping the weather and critters out
Open country means wind, rain, and plenty of wildlife looking for a warm flue. A well-fitted cap and damper keeps rain, snow, birds, and squirrels out of your chimney and stops heated air escaping when the fire is out. On exposed rural chimneys we also look hard at the crown, since that is where water damage usually starts. United Chimney Sweepers is family-owned by Michael and Mark Lloyd, bonded and insured, and voted Best Company in Illinois in 2021.

Newark wood-heat chimney questions
I heat with wood all winter. How often should my Newark chimney be swept?
If wood is your main heat source, at least once a year and often more. Heavy burning builds creosote far faster than an occasional fire does, and creosote is what fuels chimney fires. Many rural homeowners who burn daily benefit from a sweep before the season and a check partway through. The exact interval depends on how much and what you burn — green or unseasoned wood builds creosote much faster. We can advise based on what we find in your flue.
What is glazed creosote, and why is it dangerous?
Glazed creosote is the hard, shiny, tar-like layer that forms when a chimney burns cool or burns unseasoned wood — common in homes that run a stove low and slow all winter. It is highly flammable and much harder to remove than ordinary soot. Left alone it can ignite into an intense chimney fire. We identify glazing during inspection and address it with the right methods. Burning well-seasoned wood hot enough is the best way to slow it from coming back.
Do you travel out to the Newark area?
Yes. Newark sits in the far corner of Kendall County, and some services skip it, but we serve it as part of our regular area. We are based in Yorkville and reach the rural roads around Newark and Norway without trouble. Being open seven days a week makes it easier to schedule around farm and work routines. Just call and we will arrange a visit.
Can a cracked flue liner really be that serious?
Yes. The liner is what keeps heat and combustion gases inside the flue and away from the surrounding structure. A crack lets intense heat reach framing and lets gases leak where they should not, which is a genuine fire and carbon-monoxide risk. In a Newark home that burns hard all winter, liner wear is one of the first things we check. If we find a crack, we will explain your options clearly rather than leaving you guessing.
